Memorial Day Finish

This is my third floor quilt.

It is made from a kit with directions by Tami Pfeil.

I'm calling it " Oh, Say Can You See".

Finished sewing down all the appliqué pieces Saturday.

I tried to sew continuously around each rocket.

The photo below shows the stitching.

I made this a little larger than the directions specified.

I wanted to use all the fabric.

The binding is 3 inches wide and finishes at a half inch wide.

Here is the label to help me remember when it was finished.

This year Martin planted gladiolas.

These look red, white, & blue to me.

Next up-

T-shirt pillows?

 

Sewing in snips and bits

My new serger joined the sewing room in April.

I have made a dress for Ava, a jacket for me, and napkins for Emily.

I finished the game quilt in time to play the game with Liam, David, & Ava.

I chose a colorful stripe for binding.

There is a handy pocket on the front of the quilt to hold the game pieces.

The game starts at the bunny's house and goes around and around until the players get to the cupcake party in the center. The rules continue to evolve.

Here are the napkins I made for Emily.

I bought six yards of fabric at UTQG fabric stash table.

Each yard made 4 napkins.

I tried out different sashing material for these birds.

I decided on the white sashing.

Should have it finished in a few days.

I made this block with 5 inch squares from my stash.

MAMQG's May program is how to make a clock with a quilt block.

This pattern is part of the Riley Blake 2024 sew along.

I've been having problems with photos loading to the laptop.

Hopefully that has been cured by deleting excess photos.

First Weeks of April in the Sewing Room

My usual sewing plan is to work on one project at a time.

This month I'm juggling 3 projects.

The squares above are part of the game night quilt.

The game begins at the bunny's house below.

I have finished the top and pieced a back from two yards of extra wide backing.

For some reason I can't get the photos of the completed top to upload to the blog.

I'm working on pin basting and quilting it this week.

The birds for my flora and fauna mini quilt are ready.

I embroidered the bird names with pearl cotton in different colors.

Still in progress is Oopsie Daisy.

I'm adding more blocks in between other sewing.

Then there was a little detour over the week end.

The Memphis Symphony Chorus presented two concerts of Haydn's Creation.

We had a guest conductor, Dr. Rebecca Lord.

She brought her six year old daughter to some of our rehearsals.

Since I work with preschoolers in choir at GUMC her little girl stole my heart.

I thought Clara might like a couple of pocket kittens to remember her trip to Memphis.

Wrapping up March

I had fun making little chick bags for Easter.

I remembered all the people who were part of my early years and some who also

worked with my daughter and son when they were preschoolers.

I made eleven little chick bags for my grandkids and the little ones in my preschool choir.

Last Tuesday at Uncommon Threads Quilt Guild we tied some quilts for our charity project.

This is the one I helped tie. I volunteered to bind it.

Below is the finished binding.

The quilt had been folded for a long time and had cat hair on it.

Below is a shot of the quilt after I washed and dried it.

I like the look of a tied quilt.

I may tie one of my finishes in the future.

It is a fast way to finish a quilt, I think.

I am working on a mini quilt for the Cotton Exchange.

The theme this year is 'Flora & Fauna'.

I took an online class on coloring on fabric.

These are the birds I am going to use on the mini.

Below I am trying out fabric.

Another set of choices.

A lighter middle piece with some of the birds tinted.

Back to the green in the middle.

I decided to cut the fabric into 7.5" squares and lay them out in a nine patch.

The quilt cannot be bigger than 24" square.

I am planning on sashing/bordering to make it look like window panes?

We will see how this progresses.

SAHRR 2024 Finish

First, the back.

I machine quilted and bound this mini quilt with a hanging sleeve and corner label.

Some extra blocks and leftover bits and pieces were used on the back, too.

I made the quilt 24" X 28" so it would fit on this hanger.

Below the hand quilting with pearl cotton #8 in cream and variegated browns is visible.

I also used a medium blue and variegated dark blue-violet-black #8 pearl cotton.

This was a great sewing challenge.

Bits of this and that from my sewing room

Spring Chickies is finished and greeting visitors at our front door.

I went off on a wild sewing detour and made lots of Oopsie Daisy blocks from scraps.

I'm going to continue working on this until I have enough for a bed size quilt.

I made two Alpen bags in a class at The Sewing House a couple of weeks ago.

I took off the strap that was on this bag.

I was not happy with the webbing and did not want to waste the hardware on a bag I wouldn't use.

I will make another bag and use better webbing.

This is the bag I really like. I use it when I go to Team Read.

It holds everything I need and will be very handy on outings.

The colors make me happy.

I have hung the 'Tea or Coffee?' mini in the display of mini quilts in the hall to my sewing room.

Still thinking about adding embroidery to this little quilt.

Next week is spring break.

Finished Stay at Home Round Robin 2024

First a photo of the backing.

I put the extra blocks, test blocks, and bits of leftover batiks strips on the back.

I made binding from one fat quarter. 

The strips were cut 2 3/8".

The blue corner is for the label.

The hanging sleeve is in place.

Mini clips keep everything in place.

Blue Ridge Mountains Island Batik Fat Quarter Bundle was used with some pale cream backgrounds.

That definitely helped coordinate the colors of the fabrics I used in this mini quilt.

The binding blends with our floor so it doesn't show up in the photo above.

I am happy with this finish.

There will be some hand quilting added to each round.

I'm calling it Mountain Magic.

So glad I took part in the round robin.
