On a Quillow Kick

Making Liam's quillow was so easy I had to make another one. 

I wanted to frame some favorite fabrics and make a retirement gift for a friend.

So, even though I don't have much time to sew, I just had to start the pieced side.

I love the little teapot bird houses above.

Next a border of piano keys will be added to the top and bottom to make it longer. 

After I finish this one, I'm making one for myself!

New Window Treatment

Bought fabric and finished a new window treatment today. Cute fabric with pink birds and orange and pink flowers made into a fresh look for the middle bedroom. The old curtains were the same color as the walls - boring. I think the room looks a little bigger now. The valance will keep the morning sun from waking up guests too early. (Liam sleeps in this room when he visits.)

I have fabric to make a sweet pink, green, and white quilt for this bed. Can't wait to see how that will look. This bright/black quilt will make a good picnic quilt one day.

That's all the sewing I will get done this spring break. Picking up Liam from his other grandparents tomorrow. We'll be busy doing whatever 22 month olds like to do until his parents get back from Scotland.

Little Transportation Quilt/pillow

First day of spring break and I finished this quilt/pillow for grandson. He saw the train fabric and said, "I like trains." Then he proceeded to point out some of the other vehicles like the helicopters and cars. He pointed to all the yellow fabric and said, "lellow, lellow, lellow."

Another look at the train side. The weather is beautiful today, sunny and low 70's.

I only have a few days to sew and need to work on the king size quilt redo. Really want to start something new. Why can't I finish one thing before starting something new?

labels done, ready to mail

Okay. These are not beautiful labels but they are done and photos done, too. I am trying to document each quilt I make, so this is step one. 

Now two quilts are ready to mail to niece and nephew. 

Here are all three quilts washed and folded.

Must. Get. Work. Done. So. I. Can. Sew.

I need to buy batting for the king quilt and quillow. Probably need more basting pins for the king quilt. Watched the tutorial on The Binding Tool, so now I need to buy one. My binding comes out okay but joining the ends is a pain. I think this tool will make it much easier. Easy is good, right?

Now for a travel update

I haven't had much sewing time lately. I have worked on the top that I'm converting from queen to king size. I have two borders on and have two left to do. Week ends have been busy. Liam spent one Friday night and last week end we went to Memphis to see Wicked.

The weather has been horrible. I am sick of the cold weather, especially having to go in and out to the 'trailer' all day. We missed two days of school for bad weather. Liam stayed with us one day since Em & Ben's school didn't close but day care did.

I did get 3 quilt labels sewn on the quilts but haven't taken a photo yet. This coming week end I need to work on a newsletter and professional development presentation but I really want to make a cute little quillow for Liam.

Ten years later... A Finish!

Sunday I finished this sampler lap quilt. The blocks were started in a Saturday Sampler, the first one I ever attended. I posted about the top last week.

One block and a strip of braid had to go on the back. I was determined that all the pieces would be part of this finish. I took the finished quilt to school Monday and another teacher recognized one of the blocks. She said that she and her mom bought the block kit in 2003 or 2004 but had not finished it. I was surprised and delighted. I had forgotten when we started the sampler class.

The quilt above contains only half of the blocks we made in the class.

The quilt below was made from the other blocks a year ago. I put them together for a raffle at school.

This one has the blocks that were easier to line up and I added two borders. 

The backing is light blue.

Feeling so good about completing these unfinished projects that I'm going to tackle the queen to king redo this weekend. Hope you have a great weekend!

New Year, New Quilt Finished!

Finished the binding this morning and so this is my first finish of 2014. I used fabric from my stash and lots of the Fabshophop fabric. Giant Log Cabin block was quick to piece.

The back is very different for me. Two half yards and one yard of Art Gallery plus a little strip that was also used on the front.

I wanted another quick finish, so I thought about these blocks from my oldest unfinished project. I hope to get it quilted before going back to work Monday. I made these blocks in the first Saturday Sampler class I took more than 8 years ago. I think my piecing skills have improved over the years. Some of the blocks were so wonky and I had to take apart some seams to square up the blocks.

Mr. M likes this top and I think I will keep it when it's done.
